Push and Pull

I found myself laughing at myself today as I started to lay out the latest spread, because I defaulted to my go-to draw of three cards. Three is an excellent number for when you want to point the way forward; there is something particularly active about the way it whittles problems down to their barest essentials: On the one hand. On the other. Solution.

This is of course a gross simplification of the kinds of problems we tend to face in reality, where there may be fifteen moving parts, five parties, and eighteen realistic paths to take, but there’s something absolutely seductive about the way three cuts to the chase.

Today’s draw:
Swan
Raven
Horse

Deck:
Medicine Cards, by Jamie Sams and David Carson

In today’s spread, Swan represents a person you’ve been frustrated with. They may be flighty or ungrounded and struggling to make the things you know they can do happen. At their best, they have a knack for going with the flow gracefully so that things just happen around them, but they’ve lost touch with that of late and you’ve (Raven) been getting impatient. It’s possible, though, that you’ve been pushing them too hard. It’s true that Raven can see and connect people to their own power, but it’s also true that you cannot force that on someone else. Also — you aren’t perfect! As much as you can feel people’s strengths, you can’t know them as well as they know themselves. Horse represents that individuality and freedom and is nudging you to respect that each person has to travel their own path in their own time. So instead of letting yourself get into a power struggle with this person, consider putting the idea in their head of which way they should be headed and then just…letting go. No one likes a nag, so if you’ve done your part and pointed them the right way, stepping back may be exactly what you need to do to let them find the way.
