Fish or Cut Bait

I’ve chosen another three card spread for the day, as three is the number traditionally associated with doing things and I have some things to do! Whether you have a project that you’re planning, need to motivate others into action, or are trying to identify a goal to focus on, three can point the way.

Today’s draw:
The Chariot
Four of Cups (Meditation)
Seven of Cups (Choices)

Deck:
The Field Tarot, by Hannah Elizabeth Fofana

The first card, at the focal point of the triangle, is The Chariot in a reversed position. The card uses extremely old imagery: Plato once had Socrates discuss the two parts of the soul as a light horse and a dark horse, each of which was, on its own, inclined to pull in the opposite direction of its compatriot. The skillful charioteer of the soul would guide them so that they worked in tandem to pull the chariot on a straight path down the middle. The modern tarot has retained this meaning. Here, it suggests that the path you are currently on is marked by imbalance or indecision. The horses are pulling in different directions. In order to move forward on your current project, you’ll want to sort this.

The two cards at the bottom can be read as the two competing forces currently holding you back. Both are cups: your emotions are scattering your energies. On the one hand, you’re likely feeling overwhelmed and like you may need to retreat for some quiet time to get your head on straight. But you’re also confronted with pressing choices that can’t keep waiting forever, despite the fact that the choices are choices. They may be particularly big ones, or there may be some options that are better left unchosen. And if you’re feeling especially hermetic at the moment, you run the risk of choosing the option that allows you to continue running away from what you need to be doing.

Now is the time to be realistic about what you’re confronted with, but recognize that you may be feeling a bit fragile. Learn to balance a clear-eyed realism with kindness to yourself about the situation, as well as giving yourself the time to ask what you really want. Don’t rush into the choice without giving yourself this moment to take stock, but don’t drag your feet, either. The time to chart the course is here.
