The layout today has five cards, which is the number associated with change in a number of different knowledge traditions. This spread is read clockwise beginning with the card to the right (the eight of wands here), ending with the center card.

Today’s draw:

Eight of wands (Movement)
Seven of Cups (Choices)
The Empress
Ace of Cups (Love)
Wheel of Fortune

Deck:
The Field Tarot, by Hannah Elizabeth Fofana

Big surprise, we start our path to change today with the Eight of Wands, or change itself. In the first position, this marks the point or goal of the journey. How we accomplish it is read through each of the next cards.

In the second position, we confront choice. The card located here in the spread is the thing that may have historically held us back. It may be the habits, trauma, or difficulties we have had that are especially close to our inner child. It may also be positive experiences that serve us well. Have you historically struggled with choice? Maybe you were long denied the ability to make your own choices, or you were given so many and so little structure that you find them overwhelming.

Be gentle with your child self, but know also that the third card is your power card. This card is what will help you get things done. The Empress is a powerful protector who can be warm or fierce as needed. She is intuitive and insightful — let her guide you as you grow into your own. Trust your intuition and yourself. Stop second guessing all of those many choices! You know in your heart what is right.

Still doubting yourself? The card at the head of the draw is the advice you should use to stay on the straight path, that will lead you wisely. In the reversed position, the Ace of Cups is not negative. It represents self-love, one of the most powerful cards there is. Choose the path that honors your own needs without compromising what is right, and you will not go wrong.

Finally, a warning but a way forward. The center card provides a kind of shield or protection in accomplishing your journey, provided you use it to identify how to synthesize the message of the other cards into a coherent whole. The reversed wheel of fortune points to bad luck that is tied to repetitive habits. Overcoming these is the goal of the journey — if you don’t do it this time, you’ll find yourself back where you started.
